DISCOVER STONE RIDGE
Located in the heart of historic Appomattox County, Virginia, just 11 miles from Lynchburg, Stone Ridge offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of American history. From its pivotal role in ending the Civil War to its origins dating back to the 18th century, this estate is a testament to the enduring legacy of the past.
A RICH HERITAGE
Appomattox County boasts a storied past, with its first inhabitants being the Monacan Indians, whose presence spans thousands of years. The area also holds significance as the site of Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest, a retreat nestled just outside Lynchburg.
In the mid-1780s, Captain William Turner, a distinguished veteran of the Continental Navy, was awarded the land that would become Stone Ridge. Over the ensuing decades, Captain Turner and his sons, William & James, expanded their holdings, including Turner Mountain, now an integral part of Stone Ridge.
Through the passage of time, Stone Ridge has passed through the hands of several generations of landowners. However, between 1986 and 1988, the estate underwent a remarkable transformation. Renowned architect Truhart Poston meticulously restored the main house to its original splendor, utilizing stone quarried directly from the property. The property was again renovated in the early 2000s to become what it is today.
NATURAL SPLENDOR
Nestled amidst the serene beauty of the James River, Stone Ridge is home to a thriving ecosystem. From majestic deer to wild turkeys, the estate teems with wildlife. Moreover, the pristine waters of the James River offer ample opportunities for fishing, with catfish weighing over 30 lbs and smallmouth bass abundant along its banks.
